Comment: After high school I went to votech with Jan Lee for Veterinary Technology. Lived with Debbie Fruetel and other girlfriends until Deb married Jay Schmitz.  I bought a duplex in 1985 and went to work at the U of MN in medical research.

At the U of MN I worked as a scientist in medical research and obtained my BS in Medical Research with an emphysis in implantable devices.  I then earned a MS in Management of Technology at the U of MN.  Lots of travel US and International and co-authored medical journal publications with the medical research, very interesting.  I worked at the U of M for 28 years and then self employed in medical research consulting work.  Now I am a certified florist working from a studio at home.

I married Scott Rusten (1970 St. Louis Park)  Scott was my high school sweetheart.  We reconnected through facebook (Jan found him) in 2019.  Scott and I married in 2011 and I enjoy his two girls and there families and I am also a grandma!  We have two dogs who are adorable too.

Comment:

Since I am one of the last 3 people on earth not on Facebook, and I have lived on the east coast for most of the last 40 years, I shouldn’t be surprised that I am a bit disconnected from my SLP HS friends.  It would be great to be there for the reunion, but it is the morning of the reunion, and it is clear now that it isn’t going to happen.  I hope you are all doing well. I’m sure you will have a great time this weekend and I’m sorry I’m not there.

Life has been pretty good to me so far.  I live in CT with my wife and our dog, about halfway between our two sons, one in NYC and one north of Boston.  I enjoyed my career in consulting, primarily at Accenture, where I was a Partner serving financial services clients.  I helped large companies develop software and adopt new technologies.  I wrote code when I started, and loved it.  I learned new things every day, was surrounded by very talented people, and most days I loved my work.  In retirement I’ve done some programming again, for fun.  I love skiing in VT, golf (started in my 50’s), running in the woods, reading (including the books and NYT column of one of our most prominent classmates), travel, online classes from Coursera and EdX, and kind of sort of learning to play guitar.  Also love sailing and scuba diving, but it has been a while for both.  Now I am a busy volunteer at SCORE (score.org).  There are 10,000 of us nationwide, and we provide free mentoring and education for startups and small business owners.  It can be a lot of fun — check it out.

What I miss about home:  old friends I haven’t seen in decades, the city lakes, the buzz of so much fun stuff going on in the not so big town of Minneapolis.  We just visited one of my old friends from SLP while in Seattle for a wedding, and it was great to catch up.  I know you will all have fun.

I would love to catch up with old friends (but may not join FB any time soon).  I hope we have a 60th reunion, and if we do, I hope to be there.
