Lisa Rock
2023-12-06
Rock (Skog), Lisa Ann Lisa was born into a large Irish/ Norwegian family in 1952 in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. After high school, she departed for Europe with a backpack and a list of addresses to call on when she arrived in various cities. The London address would lead her to meet Michael Rock (Rocky), the love of her life.
After marrying in 1974, Rocky and a pregnant Lisa moved to Minnesota in 1976. Lisa spent her first decade back in Minnesota focused on raising her only child, Eddie. During this time, Lisa began her lifelong connection to the arts, first with acting and later as a standup comic, writer, and producer. A loving and fiercely protective mother, Lisa didn't think twice about braving an 8-hour line for World Series tickets and famously called Eddie's professors during his first semester of college to check in on how he was doing.
In Lisa's third act, she and Rocky embraced life as empty nesters. They continued to write together and deepened their relationships with friends and family. A 3-week trip to Ireland in 2015, where they climbed Croagh Patrick Mountain, was a capstone on their lives together. Lisa was heartbroken after Rocky passed away in 2016 but she found purpose in the strong bond with her beloved grandchildren, Theo (6) and Cecilia (4). Lisa was a generous patron of Twin Cities toy stores and treated every occasion as an opportunity to shower her grandchildren with gifts.
Lisa's endless curiosity and spirit for life ultimately helped her live with ovarian cancer for more than 11 years. Her final decade, though challenging, brought her closer to her sisters (Joan Morss, Gayle Huber and Heidi Tibbets) and brother (David Skog) and introduced dozens of new friends into her life from her Chemo Chicks support group. A celebration of Lisa's life will take place at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum (Ordway Picnic Shelter) on Sunday, July 11 from 2-5pm. Published on May 9, 2021
